After School Matters

Our facility is conducive for many social services programs including an educational literacy program that tutors children between the ages of 5-11 years of age. Instructors aid children with homework assistance and teach effective study skills as a preparatory learning tool for taking examinations. The volunteer group of professional educators assists the students with the core subjects of Reading, Mathematics, Language Arts, Science and Global Studies. The populations served are children who live in the neighboring communities of Parkhill and Stapleton.

The program consists of a program manager, tutors, and additional volunteers from local colleges, high schools, and community residents. The program serves a diverse population of students from nearby communities, including participants who speak English as a second language, with our program including bilingual educators. Each child receives assistance as needed and the program runs Monday thru Thursday. The children receive assistance getting ready for the NY State Standardized test and any additional problem areas that are needed via communication received from their teachers. As always, this program is open to all residents of Staten Island.

Afterschool Matters runs from Monday through Thursday, 3PM-6PM.
